Dimona solar project clears a financing milestone
A project participant reports financial close for the planned 265 MW facility. The announcement advances the construction story; it does not establish electricity generation.

Near Dimona, a planned solar field has reached a milestone that happens before electricity reaches the grid. In a 24 June 2026 announcement, Firon, the law firm representing EDF power solutions Israel, reported Financial closeThe stage when financing agreements and their conditions permit access to project funding. for the project. This SPFI briefing adapts a participant’s announcement and adds context; Firon’s involvement is part of the attribution, not an independent inspection of the site.
Firon describes a 265 MW photovoltaic facility covering roughly 3,000 dunams, with construction expected to take about two years and operation under a public–private partnership for approximately 25 years. These are the participant’s project specifications and estimates. The announcement does not identify the AC or DC basis of the capacity figure, so this account keeps its original unit and does not convert it into annual generation.
Why does financing deserve attention? The World Bank’s PPP guidance explains that financial close is reached when agreements and their conditions allow the private project company to access financing. Winning a tender and securing usable financing are therefore different steps. For a reader following a project over time, the milestone helps explain how a proposal can move toward construction without treating a funding announcement as proof of completed work.
The planned technology is PhotovoltaicsConversion of light into electricity by solar cells.: solar cells absorb light and produce electrical current. A capacity figure describes power, whereas electricity accumulated over time is energy. A large number in megawatts cannot, by itself, tell readers how much electricity the facility will deliver in a particular month. That requires operating information that this announcement does not provide.
Globes had reported the financing milestone on 3 May 2026 and described the initial phase as being without storage. Its earlier publication and Firon’s later notice should not be mistaken for two separate financings. The sources establish an announced financing step; current construction progress, commissioning and measured output remain separate questions. As those records become available, they can show what followed the announcement.
